Musty Choklate

Tyrone ¨Musty¨ Smith is a radical artist and skateboarder from the Boston area and senior at Boston Collegiate Charter School. He´s the weirdest dude you'll ever meet and loves messing around, playing video games, skateboarding and eating chocolate bars. ¨There is no better joy than cracking open a chocolate bar and an Arizona with jazz on repeat for endless hours and just drawing or painting. It´s seriously sick.¨
Tyrone never attended any formal art training but he enjoys sitting at home making clothes. Originally, he started off making clothing for girls that he liked with nothing but a Sharpie in his hand but, as his art evolved so did his clothing. He was influenced by people such as Leon Karssen, Tyler the Creator, Mikey Alfred, Mac Miller, Na-Kel Smith, Louis Armstrong, Leon Bridges, Mark Ryden and many more. "All of those people are seriously amazing. They create something new and adventurous and do what they want whether or not people will even buy their stuff yet, people do", Smith says, "Ryden especially makes me realize how bizarre this world can be. I love that guy."  Growing up in an urban setting, Tyrone was called ¨weird¨, ¨creep¨, ¨gay¨, ¨white¨ and a loser for his love for jazzy music and all things pink and peach. He tried fitting in but never has and at one point, that bothered him but he found his difference as a gift now; it is no longer a curse. He loves combining odd colors and seeing them pop through the screen and his clothing did not start off very strongly due to his family´s low income. They never supported his art except his beloved brother Marvin who strongly influenced his creative personality. He hates sports and spent all of his time inside making clothes and listening to his vinyls and his grandparents looked down on his creative behavior. His motivation for his art is the hope that it passes the energy and love that is in his mind to other people and make the world a bit more colorful.
His art started off as him drawing comic books for his friends to read. It was influenced by all the anime that he watched and his older brother Marvin. He then moved to more abstract art as he mastered the basics of free form drawing and painting. "I know that it's weird to say but, I love when people question my art", says Musty when asked about his art, "people look at my heart and always give me the same look, it's awesome." Musty loves adding odd shapes and eyes and parts of bodies to his surreal paintings and drawings of various and random things. "Anything that comes to my mind, I love to draw it out and maybe even laugh about it if it ends up a bit too surreal", says Musty. Growing up with not a lot of money, Tyrone had no means to buy the clothing which he looked up to and he hopes that he does honor to his role models. He hopes to one day open a pop up shop for his clothing line and sell chocolate candies along with the clothes. He also hopes to make at least one collaboration with the many people and clothing companies that he looks up to and deeply loves. The young artist believes that chocolate and s'mores can truly bring people together and help them bond.
